The next big chapter update is nearing completion for Serene Skies and it’s proven to be both parts challenging and enjoying.

A big difficulty for me since the initial release is trying to decide when and how the player will get to choose a girl’s ‘route’ to pursue. Once that stage of the game is reached, the narrative will naturally shift focus from ensemble cast scenes to narrowing in on the selected romantic interest. I’d still like the possibility of having the player the freedom to interact with other girls after haven chosen a route, at least to some non-trivial extent. Regardless of what I decide, a lot of work is still needed, primarily with additional content.

The relationship points so far have served for tracking progress with the girls and for gatekeeping certain scenes. But they will also prove crucial when the time comes to pursue a romantic route. That is something I’m now figuring out how to implement properly.

Chapter 6 will also include the introduction of the 6th and (final for now) main romanceable character - Laura. Given that she is introduced later in the story in comparison to the other girls, Laura will not have as much screen time but I want her to have an impact that makes up for that. I think six characters is a decent sized cast which I hope provides a good deal of variety when it comes to player choice and the preferences they may have. I’ve not ruled out other characters in the future but for now I’m settled with these six.

Finally I hope to have more comprehensive lewd scenes that can cater to a variety of tastes whilst also staying true to the unique personality of the girls.
